A classic sign of Termination woes. T SCA drive may be set to provide 
termination (as is the CDrom drive by default on most macs) so you need 
to remove it if it's on. Look for a jumper marked TE somewhere on the 
SCA drive and un jumer it if it's jumpered.

If it's not jumpered, try jumpering it.

Ther'es also the issue of termination power...sometimes they can be set 
to 'provide termination power to the bus' which can screw things up.
