The "extents" is a data structure that hold information on fragmented
files on the disk. That is a fairly low level of the disk structure and
an error in that section can be serious. But in your case this may be
caused by a constant need to kill the computer because it is not
starting up properlly and may well not be the cause of your trouble.

Have you tried to boot from either a floppy or a CD? The system will
boot from a floppy before it attempts to read from the hard drive.
Holding the "C" key will boot from a CD but holding down shift option
command delete, will cause the Mac to ignore the internal hard drive and
look for any other device. If the black screen is do to a hard drive
failure, the shift option command delete, should get the system working
from the CD before it checks the internal hard drive.

The most common reason I have noted for a dark screen when booting and a
failure to boot is caused by bad memory. Have you tried taking out or
changing around any of the dimms you installed.
