Kevin,
Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't mention all the things that I had tried.
When I first put the computer together, I used an old monitor. I tried using it
again, but it still got the black screen. Both monitors are PC compatibles for
which I have been using an adapter. I ordered a new adapter, which should
arrive in the next couple days, just in case there is something wrong with the
old one. The battery hasn't demonstrated any other symptons of failure, but is
dated 9/96, so will I get a new one. Where is the best place to get one? One of
my old manuals said Radio Shack. I'll try there first unless someone has a
better suggestion.

I had no success in locating the cuda button. Any more hints of where to locate
it? Also the CD you mentioned. There are a few for $17 (though free shipping
and handling). It's advertised as the "Apple Mac Technician Manual CD SET". Is
it the one -- or a reasonable alternative? It would probably be beneficial as I
really don't know where the processor card, ram, cache card, and video ram are,
though everything within seems snug and in place.

I'll try the new battery, adapter, and cuda button (if I can locate it--do all
macs have them?) and hope that one of them help bring it to life again. If all
else fails, I can take it to one of the local mac gurus...

Thanks again for your help.
