Sounds right.

The 7300 is a dumbed-down (as to cost, not as to performance) 7500/7600.

All the A-V stuff was removed from the board, and the board was ... again ... 
laid out for the then new 24-pin and 10-pin powering scheme, instead of the 
older 22-pin and 10-pin scheme.

There are indeed processors which will work in 7500/7600s, 8500s and 8600s 
which will not work correctly in a 7300.

However, processors which originally came with a 7300 will work in any Mac 
which has a compatible processor slot.
