Without making a measured drawing of an 8500 power supply, and a measured 
drawing of an 8600/9600 case, and comparing them, I really couldn't tell you.

I CAN tell you that an ATX power supply will fit in an 8600/9600 case, by use 
of a sheet metal adapter plate ... no cutting of the 8600/9600 case is 
required.
