It should be possible to navigate to the files and toss them using 
the keyboard.   Since the button on the mouse works, I would suspect 
that the Mouse preferences is corrupt and trash it first.   Use the 
Tab key, arrows, Cmd-O to open, and Cmd-Delete to move to the trash. 
Also, when you open a folder, you can press a letter key and move to 
the first file alphabetically that starts with that letter, then 
press the tab key to move to the next alphabetically.
