I've been having this same problem with an 8500 for a couple of months with no solution offered. Retail box Mac OS 9.1 installs fine on my Frankenmac 7500 but refuses to install on a nearly factory 8500. Go figure. I'm considering using the 8500 for target practice with a broadsword as my weapon of choice. . .
