There are 3 sizes of L2 cache for the 7500 series computers: 256K, 512K, and
1mb.

I did bench testing with Norton Systemworks to see how much difference the
larger L2 cache made. According to the test, there was about a 20% increase
in system speed with the 1mb cache compared to no cache, and about 10%
compared to the 256 cache. Personally I couldn't see much difference in
actual application performance, but it may depend on what kind of
application you use.

I tend to agree with the other lister who said that a G3 upgrade was more
cost-effective. However, if you only have a little money to spend, an L2
cache may be worth it to you.

By the way, you may be able to get a 256K L2 cache for free from someone who
has upgraded to a G3. Just keep in mind that the 7500 sometimes can be fussy
about cache chips. For instance, I took a 256K cache chip from a 7600 and
tried it in a 7500 and it wouldn't work. On the other hand, I have 1mb L2
cache chips that worked in an 8500, a 7600 and a 7500.

I have some 1mb cache sticks that I'm not using any more and which I'll sell
for $15 each.

Hope this helps,

tafkar
