The Apple-supplied control panel, PCSetup, and utilities supported up to MacOS 8.1. Beyond 8.1, to MacOS 8.5 specifically, a patch was provided. That patch changes the control panel from 1.6.4 to 1.6.5. Although that patch was supposed to be limited to 8.5, some users, myself included, have found that it also works on MacOS 8.6. Support beyond 8.1, to include 8.5 and 8.6 without patching, is provided by the now freeware, but formerly commercial-ware, PCSetup2. PCSetup2 also provides support for MacOS 9, and also supports Win98. PCSetup, with the patch, was limited to Win95. For many users, DOS 6.22 and Win3.11 (either Windows or Windows for Workgroups) is sufficient, although the PC Compatibility Card product only came with DOS and not with Windows. The former DOS Compatibility Card product (for pre-PCI Macs) did come with both DOS and Windows. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
