Your condition seems weird. You said that you reformatted your HDD but
that suggests to me that you had to use a bootable CD to do so. If you
were going to reformat your drive because of "problems", maybe the kind
of problems you were having holds the key. I would reinitialize the
drive and zero all data, just to make sure all would be OK.

Pardon me for asking, but what is inside your 7600? Hard drive(s), RAM, processor?

Sounds like your CD Rom is malfunctioning.
