The PowerMac's (7xxx,8xxx,9xxx) basically max out with a 50Mhz bus. Some early third party CPU cards (the CPU card actually sets the bus speed in these machines) pushed that up to 60Mhz, but didn't have a big effect. The cause is that the memory used (60ns EDO) basically maxes out at 50 Mhz access speed and all that happened when memory was accessed is that an extra wait state was added. Power computing introduced a clone with a 60Mhz bus speed, but I don't know what modifications they made to support it. The thing with bottle necks, you really need to know what the bottle neck is and then how much of an improvement you can make until you hit the next one up the line. I always loved the one person who put in an early ATA-100 PCI card and hooked his ATA-100 HD up to it and did not see any performance improvement. The reason? The HD, although an ATA-100 interface, was a 5400 RPM drive with a 13ms seek time and 512K of RAM - basically a low end drive - and was badly fragmented at that - so the drive was the actual bottle neck, not the interface speed.
