I recently bought an 8500 for my dad. (ala Switch commercials) My last
post regarded upgrading this machine as it's pretty basic right now. One
thing I feel I need to address rather quickly is the difficulty in
finding a serial printer for the machine. With several USB models that
should work, it doesn't make sense to try to find an older serial one.
However, I want to be sure I get a reliable one. I'm thinking a printer
an possibly a scroll wheel optical mouse will likely be the only things
plugged into the card.

Price isn't as important as the following factors (not listed in any
order):
1. Is it made in the U.S.? (probably not, but one can hope)
2. How reliable is it?
3. Ease of installation?
4. Does the manufacturer have phone tech support? Toll free would be
better.
5. What OS, RAM, and processor requirements does it have?
6. If you have this card, how do you like it?
7. Is the card still available new (i.e. best buy, circuit city, etc.)?

This is only my second thread with this list and I'm guessing it's one of
the more poular topics here, so if there's a FAQ or a webpage somewhere
that explains some of this, I'd love to know that link. I'd also like to
hear personnal advice based on actually using the cards-avoid this
one..., or get this one..., as I've never used any of them, though I've
been thinking od adding one to my G4 tower to reduce some of the cable
clutter. (it's got 2 on the mobo already)

Thanks,

J White
