I've found that it's true, the Finder feels snappier and boot-up from a restart seems quicker too. I not really sure how do tests to back up my observations. Let's just say that it feels faster. The problems have been so intermittant that I haven't been able to track them down. I was hoping someone else had faced the same problems and overcome them.
