That's been the quick and easy fix for my network of Macs for many years. It
hasn't failed me yet.  I sometimes also use NU and Disk Warrior prior to the
optimizing, but I don't use them always and the optimization coupled with a
restart fixes the problem. ( Except for those rare times when a program like
Netscape decides to corrupt its preferences and requires them to be trashed.) The
optimization puts things back in order and also gives me a noticable speed boost.
it's amazing how much a fragmented drive slows things down. The speed dies slowly
and isn't noticed until it is returned.
