There are no stupid questions. Remember, everyone was a newbie at some point.
As for Toast 3.5.5, I'm pretty sure that it is not capable of copying directly from a CD. It calls this "SCSI Copy Mode," and I never got it to work on Toast 3.5 on my PowerMac 7300. Toast 4 works with SCSI copy, and I have copied CDs with it. As for Zip disks, they might work, but perhaps at single or double speed only. Remember that the external SCSI chain is slower than the internal chain, and Toast will need to be able to access the data faster than it writes it. However, theoretically, burning from Zip should work. In order to utilize a CD's full capacity, you will either need enough hard drive space to accomodate the maximum possible size for a CD, (700mb), or use multiple sessions. When you use multiple sessions, you lose a little in efficiency, but get the flexibility of not needing a gig of free storage. I do recommend another hard drive to use as CD Authoring Space. 1 gig should work fine, and you won't have to install toast on that, since Toast is an application and some System Folder extensions. Just leave the extra hard drive empty and transfer your files to it. One of the nice features of Toast is the ability to create a temporary partition, which gives you a "drive" that is as big or small as you want. Its great for being able to cram as much as you can into a cd. Of course, you have to have enough storage space to use the partition in the first place. Hope this all helps. When you first start burning stuff, I recommend using simulation mode to test whether or not your set up will work at the speed you want using the device you want. That prevents you from getting a nice coaster collection. > I'm just getting started in burning CDs with Toast 3.5.5 on my PM 7200/75 > OS 7.6.1 500Mb hard drive and almost 200 Mb memory.
