Greetings, PCI-PowerMacs friends: Going back to the first thread, Wed, 15 Jan 2003 05:31:57 -0800 (PST), from Daniel LeVangie-Stricklen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

Someone mentioned in their response that >OS 9 putters along on older Macs. I have actually seen OS 9.0.4 running on a Performa 6320. Slowly. Your 5400/180 is certainly *MUCH* better than that Performa; however, I'm pretty sure that as the discussion goes on, you'll prolly be directed to OS 8.6, which is very stable and has plenty of features. I use OS 9.1 on my 6500/Sonnet Crescendo G3/400, but just today (after using OS 9.1 for almost a year and a half) had to re-install the Apple CD/DVD driver because I was getting a nasty hang when I swapped CDs. I have two external SCSI drives on this computer, and both are on OS 8.6. Last night during those nasty OS hangs, and because I *had* to swap a lot of CD-Rs, I simply re-started from one of my backup drives on OS 8.6, got the job done, and went home. As a side-step note, I am only surmising that OS 9.1 started calling on more CarbonLib than 9.0.4, because when I upgraded to 9.1, some of my older programs that worked on 9.0.4 broke on 9.1. Anyone know the specific reason? My vote for your 5400/180 is 8.6. peace..... -- Cheers!
