Wallis, It would make things much easier and dependable to get an ethernet hub or switch and a couple of straight-through cables to network your Macs with. At first I was using a crossover cable between my two PCI Macs and often had problems with Appletalk switching to serial, etc. Ever since I bought a switch there haven't been any problems.
