Yes, they are.
So you need to install a windows-based anti-virus program in it.

Norton Anti-Virus for the Mac, btw, DOES NOT eliminate PC viruses. 
So it's easily possible to receive a PC virus via email etc, leave it 
sitting around on your hard drive, launch VPC, then accidentally 
activate the virus...  oops.
