Bus speeds for PCI Macs are influenced by the crystal/oscillator speed found in their cpu daughter cards you stick into them. So you can swap a 200 mHz 604e card and expect your 120/40 to run at 50 mHz. Powerlogix had a variable bus timing 604e upgrade card. Kansas 8600/9600 boards use the much sought-after Mach5 604ev proccessor cards in 250-300-350 MHz flavors. The card incorporated a 1MB L2 cache running at twice the bus speed for really quick response; faster than the first issue 233 G3s.
