You must plug that drive as Master. Not so plugging the drive is not an option, as drives are not Master (or Slave) by default. >> and moving to bus 1, the external SCSI bus, out the back, I can put the original CD ROM drive out there in a case, leave the ID alone at ID 3, and leave the termination as it was internally, since it was terminated when inside, and in either place it would be the only or the last device on the bus. [ ... ] >> Bus 0 and Bus 1 are separate (but not equal). Bus 0 is 10 MB/sec; Bus 1 is 5 MB/sec. You can have an ID 3 on the internal bus and an ID 3 on the external bus as well as SCSI Manager 4.3 separated all SCSI buses. These buses were "merged" into one, before SCSI Manager 4.3. On most modern Macs (except PowerBooks), the initiator (the mobo, in this case) is self-terminating. The last drive must be terminated. The unique thing about the external SCSI bus, Bus 1, is this bus is self-terminating for the target (the drive, in this case) as well, meaning that in most circumstances you can have no drive, an unterminated drive (which actually provides a "weak" termination) or a conventionally terminated drive, and all will be OK. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
