     The amp has no treble or bass knobs - just a five band equaliser and 
the output is adjusted by the equaliser just as it would be to headphones 
- but there's very little  distortion compared to trying to increase the 
gain on the input with the sound in 'gain' slider - which does generate 
'hum'.
     I would guess that the minijack level is much lower than the normal 
output - but I'm no electrician - a software pre amp would be nice - I 
hear Digital Performer has that feature.
