In the MacSecrets 5th edition there is a paragraph about how some of 
the engineers at Apple hot swap SCSI drives, but you can fry the mobo 
if you don't pull the connection apart so that you don't create any 
spikes, a dodgy proposition at best. And anywhere else you'll 
read/hear not to do it. I didn't get away with it either, so better 
safe than sorry, shut down the computer before powering down or 
unplugging/swapping SCSI drives/devices.
