Your Finder file itself is corrupted. This happened to me a number of 
times under systems 7.x and 8.0.

Boot from your System CD (It needs to be the same system as the one on 
your HDD) frag the Finder itself from the CD's System folder to the 
System folder of your HDD. presto...boots like a charm.
