I don't have the experience to discuss the desktop/laptop situation. What I do know is that IE leaks memory like a sieve. After so many page displays I can watch it get slower and slower and if I continue it will eventually freeze requiring a forced quit or reboot. As long as I quit the program periodically, it is fine.
