Hi James, I have a lot of older Macs in use, and one is very like yours. A 7300 PowerLoogix 350, 512k cache. I have a IBM 4.5 gig and about 400mb of RAM. It still has the stock video. My sister is using with OSX, But I am a graphic artist and X on this Mac is too slow for graphics. But for regular use I find it very usable with OSX. I have a 7600 with a 220 G3 card running OS 9.1 that I use as a print server. But I did have a G3 300/1mb running OSX in this 7600 at one time.
When I used the 7300 I had an ATA 100 card and a 40 gig ATA 100 drive in it. It worked fine for most graphics work and general use. Some of the things I bought to upgrade the PCI macs I now use in newer Macs. The ATA card and drive does wonders for my DT G3 266. I moved a Radion 7000 to a B&W G3 and the Rage 128 grom it to the DT G3. I never did do a complete upgrade at once; Like yourself, I picked up good buys as I could and when I could. My recomendations to Christian were based on his being a self described "Linux Nerd". I could only assume he is used to heavier hardware and I don't want him to be dissapointed with his first Mac. james sanderson wrote: > > > I have a 7300 with an xlr8 MACHSpeed G3/300 for $75 > added a USB/Firewire combo for$50 > bought a 17" Monitor > for$50 > bought a couple of 128 DIMMS for$40 > bought a 9GB SCSI Seagate HD for $45 > bought a 4.5 GB SCSI IBM HD for$25 > for a total of nearly $300. I have been really happy with it. While it's not "quicksilver," > it's not so slow either. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
