I have replaced the SCSI hard drives on all my PCI-based Macs [ * ] with UATA cards (not the Trio, however, but some Sonnet Tempos and some of all the other makes, too) and big UATA drives (20 GB minimum). On all of these machines the only internal SCSI drives iare CD-ROMs and, possibly, Zips. Once you have a usable UATA card (the right firmware for your machine and MacOS, etcetera) there is seldom any reason to keep the SCSI hard drive.
