I have an 8600 I got with no drive at all, so it has been run off of a Trio
and a 120GB EIDE drive as the boot drive from the beginning. Just boot off
of an OS install CD and use Apples drive setup to get everything ready, just
like any other cherry system.

Just a thought though, since your gonna have to initialize the drive in the
first place ... Partition it now with the first partition less than 8 GB,
it'll make it a lot easier to upgrade to X in the future.
