I am a new Mac user
that has picked up a 8600/300 from the garbage literally. I added a new
pram battery and 128 meg of RAM. Purchased OS 8.1 and Replaced that with
9.1. I really like the the system although I not sure of it's speed.
I few questions I have are:
1. I have a
lot of Adaptec 2940s around with Bios ver of less than 1.25. Is it
possible to get on of these to work in that system?
2. How good is
the AV capture? Can I capture video from my camcorder? Will I need
and CPU upgrade for that?
3. If I want
to upgrade to OSX just to get a feel for the OS before I lay money down for a G4
will I need to add a new video card? Maybe a rage 128 to replace the 2MB
of onboard video memory?
4. The system
is also without a CDROM I have been getting by with a NEC SCSI drive for now but
it only works if I boot with the OS 9.1 CD in the drive. I would like some
recommendations on a more permanent solution.
