The IDE - SCSI converter isn't a bad idea but an IDE controller will be
faster. Using the converter will limit you to the speed of the SCSI bus (5
or 10Mbps depending on machine / bus). The IDE controller is a lot faster.

ACARD also makes an UATA-to-UW-SCSI converter. I use this for cheap storage
on my otherwise all UW-SCSI Mac. These have a claimed internal data transfer
rate of 40 MB/sec.

This converter coexists with my all-LVD SCSI bus just fine ... and this
converter has also worked fine with my UW-SCSI-equipped NuBus Mac (9150;
using the FWB Hammer) and my UW-SCSI-equipped PCI Mac (9600, and others;
using the ATTO PSC).

My Beige's IDE Bus 0 has a DVD-ROM-R-R/W (bootable).

My Beige's IDE Bus 1 has a CD-ROM-R-R/W (also bootable).
