You must remember that multiple processor computing is not really an Apple thing....

Its more of a DAYSTAR thing.

The real brainwork behind getting multiple processing environments to work came out of the Clone Wars back in the late 1990's, and the drive to make it work came from Daystar when they outfitted their MacClones with Tsunami boards and ran them with two or four 604 or 604e processors. When the best Mac on the market was running Photoshop at 200 Mhz the Daystar Genesis MP 800+ ran circles around it with FOUR 200 Mhz 604e processors, and there was a LOT of software that could recognise and utilise the nPower processing technology. Do a little research on the internet and you'll be surprised at how much stuff there was.

Some of the Daystar computers came with NO RAM and NO hard drive and still cost twice the price of top-of-the-line Macs. They sold because they could perform Photoshop magic far beyond the ability of any other desktop computer.

These Daystar machines, physically the biggest personal computers for sale anywhere at any price, were not consumer level computers. Consumers could buy Performas or 9500s, but serious publishing professionals and TV studios bought what they had to buy to be competitive: the fastest Macs on the planet. As PCI Macs go, the Daystar clones for their time were the very best.

Most of the clones were cheaper than the Macs they competed with, or sold for the same price but had more RAM and bigger hard drives, or a monitor included. The Daystar clones were generally much more expensive, but running a multiple-processing environment at 800, 900 or 932 Mhz there were actually a better bargain for serious studio work.

And.....being made of steel instead of plastic, they can be decorated with 'fridge magnets !!
