I always reply to Spam with the 'removal' option, until I get bored. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. All in all it seems to make little difference. My spam increases regularly whether I respond or not! One time I opted to 'remove' and got taken to a page where I could download the lists of e-mail addresses of people who had also chosen this option over the last few days. I downloaded one of the files and it contained thousands of e-mail addresses! Odd huh?
Actually what happens is that the spamer who sent you the 1st e-mail stops sending to you, but then sells your e-mail address as a 'known good' address (you replied so someone is home) to other spamers. This is why you never reply to those e-mails in the first place. I once setup a freee e-mail address and used it in 1 'give us your e-mail to enter a drawing' contest, then simply replied to every spam e-mail that followed asking to be removed. End result 40+ e-mails a day on an account that was never used for anything else. It was an interesting experiment.
