Best quality (and largest file size) would be Apple Component video (uncompressed). At 480x480 (assuming we are talking NTSC) that is 13.8 MB/sec. Avid Video Shop and your SCSI disk can do that at full frame rate. Try a short clip and see if the quality of this is OK. If so, try burning to a CD. I would expect it to be OK too. If the file size gets too large this way you have to compromise. For example, try digitizing one field only or half the height (384 MB/minute). If this still doesn't work for you then you need to do the usual thing: get a firewire card and convert VHS to DV before creating the VCD. Very unsatisfactory if you know that digitizing is built-in in the 7600 has but that's the way it is. Apple didn't add a hardware JPEG codec to the design which makes it almost unusable except for a few Gigabyte maniacs like me ;-) >The final result when played in my DVD was blurry, jerky, and showed a lot of color banding or bulls eye color ring effects on large gradation areas.< Sounds like you used the Apple Video compressor which is *no good*. Do you have QuickTime Player Pro? If so check the frame rate. Doing compression and getting full frame rate at the same time is hard. The Apple Video compressor is quite fast but its quality is not so great. Jan. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
