Hey y'all, I recently picked up a CD-RW offa eBay for
my Mac, and while most of the installation went
without a hitch, I have run into one small snag: The
cd-audio cable which carries the analog signal to the
motherboard. The yamaha wants the standard black
three wire cable that I've seen before, while the Mac
wants a plug that's large, blocky, white and has four
wires. I tried soldering a hybrid wire together but
no luck. I've also been trying to research this on
the web, but it's a little frustrating because I don't
know what to call the different cables. Also, Bare
Feats sez the cd-audio cable isn't needed under 9.1,
which I'm running, while the guy at my local computer
surplus store says that's not really true.

In the meantime, I can read and write data CDs, and I
can extract tracks from audio CDs and write them to
the hard drive and then play them, and I can write
audio CDs. So I have 3/4s of the battle won, but I
would like to be able to play audio CDs someday. Any
advice?

(btw, this is my first Mac after 14 years of PCs, and
I'm so happy with it. The case design is simply
brillant. I've never had a computer I could actually
take apart in 5 minutes before. Sorry, just had to
rave for a minute.)
