Depends on how big the CD box power supply is. Some are more marginal 
than others. However, I've used the smaller boxes for shuffling around 
data with 1/3 height hard drives without problems,. I just don't do it 
long term or use the larger, older drives in the box. You could try it, 
leave the case off & see how hot the power supply gets, with use, or of 
course cross ref the specs on the case with your HD.
