Assuming the Energy Saver control panel is similar to 9.0.4, did you set the
detailed options - click on Show Details when the panel comes up? And make
sure you did not got Scheduled Shutdown ticked in the appropriate options
(see the menu item "preferences" when the panel comes up)? BTW, before your
machine shuts down is there any notice warning you? No? This would be
consistent with the appropriate box being unticked.

Perhaps throwing out the panel itself would leave the preferences intact? If
you don't want to reinstal the panel and check the above, better poke around
in your system preferences folder and throw out at least "Energy Saver
Preferences"
