The last time I had this problem, I was attempting to put a 55/6500
mobo in a Performa.  Re-did HD, Software, ram, etc., but nothing
changed.  Then I switched to a better power supply.  Fixed it.  Been
running solid for over a year now.

Could be your power supply is going out?

Just my best guess, since what you are experiencing is almost identical
to the problems I had before changing PS's...
