I'd suggest going with a Mac PCI-ATA card and an ATA drive. Between the controller and HD you should be able to spend < $200 for 80GB and less if you shop eBay or the Swap list for used. The big advantage is when that fills up (don't laugh video chews up GBs fast) you can then replace the other SCSI HD with another large ATA drive.

Hello everyone. I have a bit of a problem that I wonder if the list can help with.

I have a G3 400 upgraded 7300. I would like to have a great deal of hard drive space, somewhere between 15-20 GB, or more.

I currently have the original 2 GB Apple-ROMed Quantum SCSI-2 50 pin drive installed, and an additional IBM SCSI-2 UltraStar 50 pin 9 GB drive in the lower bay.

What is the cheapest route I could go? Keep in mind the 7300 only has 3 PCI slots, and I am currently using one of them, with another very soon to be filled by a USB card, leaving me with one PCI slot left.

Should I:

Get a ATA PCI controller and dump the SCSI drives, or at least one of them?
Dump the 2 GB SCSI and replace it with a 9-10 GB SCSI?
Get a FireWire card and an external FireWire drive?
Get an external SCSI hard drive case and a 9-10 GB SCSI drive?
Or??? Is there something I haven't thought of?

I am running both OS 9.1 and OS X 10.2.6 on this Mac, so I need something that will work with both OSes. A/V rated drives are preferred, as I plan to use the extra space for video captures.

I need this to cost the least possible amount of money, as I am not Dr. MoneyBags. Obviously, since I have a PCI Mac!

So, what is the best, least-costly solution here?

Thanks for any ideas!
