Another "minor" (according to an Iomega rep!) problem that can arise is that
some Zips will only work in certain drives. (Sometimes only the one in which
they were formatted originally.) So much for their advertised use for data
transfer.

The "rep" had never heard of any use for the drives except for archiving for
their assigned computer. (With roughly the same life as a standard floppy,
this is not a very safe archive option!) This was a factory rep at COMDEX in
Vegas a few years back. He also gave me the run around about the Iomega
warranty replacement of Zip Drives. Said that the small ones that shipped in
the 8600 weren't covered under the replacement program because they were OEM
Apple. Apple said they were covered because they were Iomega production. Many
others got replacements free from Iomega, which tells me 1. The rep didn't
know his business, or 2. Iomega got tired of replacing their bad products and
stopped honoring their word. Never got a replacement and finally wrote off
Iomega as worthless.

Impressed me so much that I will never buy anything else from Iomega. Hurray
for CDRW. I haven't used any of my Zips for a long time now. (Other than 1
that is used as the termination device on the end of an external SCSI chain!)
