put the 512 cache in it. So I tried it. I sometimes wonder if 8.6 would work better now. Maybe I'll try it again to see the difference when I get some time. Also see how 8.5.1 works before I update it to 8.6.

I installed OS 8.5.1 on an external scsi hard drive on this 7200/120 with 48 RAM, I recently picked up at a thrift store (main hard drive has 8.1). OS. 8.5.1 definitely is much faster than OS 8.6. I'm not sure what disadvantages there would be. I have to say that the 512k cache definitely improves the responsiveness of 8.6. You would think it would make a difference. 7200/120 comes with 256k L2 cache, while previous 7200 models came with none.
