Hi Folks: I'm on the same frequency as you two. As I said in another post, very few people know about all the different applications available, they've usually chosen one and stick with it.
There's Cumulus, iView Media, and Extensis Portfolio that will do everything you two are looking for, including keeping exif and comments/keywords, and being able to search based on these, but they're all over $100. iView I think is closer to $200. As for actually using a database that you develop yourself for this, (like Appleworks that you mentioned), there are probably lots of Filemaker templates out there that will do it too, if you have Filemaker. Expecting something to do the job that hasn't being designed for digital photos specifically, is probably asking too much without a huge amount of work and input on your part to set it all up, which is why these specific apps exist in the first place. They also catalogue your pix from different disks, drives etc. which is a big plus. Ergo, it may be best to simply buy one of these off the shelf. I need to get one too, and haven't done enough homework to make me decide yet, although I'm leaning towards iView. Any suggestions anyone? Has anyone tried more than one of them? Had problems with any single one of them? Left snippets in of the past two posts below...
