Hi Listie's:
I have an old 7200/90 with a 512K L2 in it, 144 meg ram, 2GB and 540MB Hdd's in it. I have on the shelf PCI USB, and Firewire cards. I was thinking of putting an IDE drive card in it and a 60Gig Hdd in place of the 540 scsi-2 and putting my music library on it? It's running OS 8.6 but even iTunes 1.1 requires OS 9! Is there a way to stick with 8.6 and use iTunes 1.1? What about alternatives to iTunes 1.1?
SoundJam MP MacAmp <http://www.macamp.com/macamp.html> Macast <http://icm.allmacintosh.com/preview/206580.html> MusicMatch <http://icm.allmacintosh.com/preview/204005.html>
SoundJam MP was bought from Casady & Greene by Apple and is the framework and foundation for iTunes.
While no longer legitimately available, a request for SoundJam MP made on the alt.binaries.mac.applications.retro newsgroup will very likely prove fruitful. An extended Google search might turn up a download site for the final version(s) of SoundJam MP. I think it would be quicker and easier to just ask on the newsgroup.
I see where MusicMatch for the Mac is no longer being supported by the MusicMatch people. I don't know if that lack of support extends to selling you a serial number, though.
While not encouraging illegal actions, serial numbers to make both SoundJam and the Mac MusicMatch fully functional are easily obtained via the net. Let your conscience be your guide.
In the meantime, it appears that both MacAmp and Macast are still supported and will gladly take your money for a serial number.
There is a patch available for installing iTunes 1.1 on an OS 8.6 machine. I've used it and it works. Again, alt.binaries.mac.applications.retro would be the place to ask for it.
I hope this will be of some use to you. -- Chris Tucker [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.gis.net/~cht
