If your system is running fine now then I suggest sticking with an ADB
keyboard, but store the ADB mouse in a filing cabinet (in case of
emergencies) and get yourself a USB optical 2 button mouse.

Other reasons for USB: digital photography, attaching card readers, more
options for printers and scanners, and the ability to use any other USB
devices.
