My 18 GB drive in the lower bay runs hotter without the case lid on. This is 
due to no or little airflow with the cover off -- even with the cooling fan.

If you look closely on the 7300 MB you will see that extra connector is 
labeled SCSI-1. The other connector with the internal ribbon cable is labeled 
SCSI-0.

I believe this connector is for bus 1, the external bus.  --glen (digest mode)
