Had this with a 740 and a beige G3 OS 9.1, 2 x USB + 2 x FW -card.
Would say: Try this:
1) Mac on, printer connected and powered on, unplug USB on Mac. Wait for
   around 10 secs and replug.
2) If not working try another USB-port/change ports.

In case you have the printer connected to an USB-hub:
Is this hub selfpowered?
If no:
Connect printer directly to USB-card (or take a powered hub).

Still nothing: Trash all printer-prefs and try again.

Still nothing again: Take Sherlock to help, trash all Epson-printer-whatever
and re-install driver from CD or internet.

Jo
