The troublesome drive is a Seagate Barracuda ATA IV model ST360021A 60gigs. When I installed it I had backed up by simply copying the original drive across my network to another Mac, and restored in the same manner to the new Barracuda. Not the right way, and a couple of minor problems did crop up, but all was well until the other night when, as described, it would freeze just before displaying the desktop. I am/was running OS 9.2.2 and if it matters it has a Sonnet L2 400/1meg upgrade. 128 megs of ram. So my feeling is that either the Finder, Finder preferences, or the desktop files are corrupt. The problem as I have stated is that no matter what drive/disk I start from, it still freezes at the same point. So I cannot even attempt any changes to the drive.
