Officially PCI Powermacs is for the 7/8/9x00 series that immediately predated the beige G3's. They were the first PowerMacs with PCI slots. The G-list was split off to deal with the beige, B&W and firther G-series computers, mostly due to list volume.

We have a fancy keyboard that plugs into an "ADB" port on the back of the G3. Does this mean we couldn't replace this keyboard with a USB keyboard?

Yes and no (because this applies to the PCI Powermacs, too.)


Yes, if you have a USB card, a USB keyboard will work; however, since the USB is not built-in, the drivers for it do not load until the system has started up, so no startup key sequences: no start from CD, no start without extensions, etc.
