I've had a fair number of problems with Netscape 4.7 and modern sites that use a lot of Javascript,

I too fought with Netscape 4.73 / 4.79 for two years. Struggled to improve Java capability with no joy.
Opera seemed too different so I downloaded Netscape 6.2 .
Ninety five percent of the Java problems went away and the ones that are left rarely crash or freeze the system.
I cannot give an opinion of Mozilla as I have never even seen it. Just relating my experience with an improved Netscape.
