With all the handling of HDs that happens on a daily basis in recording studios, it's inevitable that sooner or later, a hard drive will accidentally get dropped. :-)
hum. Ok. Hot swappable drives in carriers... sigh. Neither the HD mechanism or the carrier are ment for such traveling.
The price of studio time. The price of the hardware. The price of your hard work to make the recording.
And you risk it all by carrying around a naked drive...
Sorry to be so blunt, but "failures" such as this are 100% preventable, with minimal cost. You need to take positive action to make sure it NEVER happens again.
Off the top of my head, here's a solution that takes advantage of technology that has been available since the late 70s:
1. Use a RAID 1 array (mirrored disk drives). Leave one at the studio as a backup and take the other with you.
2. ALWAYS put the drive in a heavy duty foamed case!
