I'm running 10.2.8 on my PowerPC 8500 G4/450 ... and with my ATI Radeon 7000 Mac Edition PCI video card (with Quartz Extreme Helper), OS X aqua interface is great.

Also running 10.2.8 on a PPC 8500 G3/500 with on-board video, and it is fine there ... not as great, but fine.

I also recommend checking with Jeff at mc price breakers about the adapter / card needs ... he's The SCSI Expert ...

I also have a so-far-unused Seagate Cheetah, ultra-fast scsi drive.
It requires a card to work at optimum speed. And here's the deal.

Not only do I need to know which card to buy for this Mac, but I'm
thinking of moving up to G4 on this or a 9500, and using some version
of OS X. I realize that some fast SCSI cards don't handle OS X. So
my question becomes:

1. which card should I buy?

You don't need a card, you need an adapter. I have one of those Cheetahs in my 9600 and it works great. Write to Jeff at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and he will hook you up. Give him the type and model numbers off the drive. He's a GREAT resource for adapters, etc....

2. which version of OS X should I run on a G4-upgraded 9500?

From experience, 10.2 Jag rocks on a G4 upgraded PCI Mac. I never went to Panther on one, altho it runs excellently on this G5.....
