Russ, this seemed like good advice...
How much memory have you allocated to yIM? If you're not sure, open the folder that contains it, select its icon, and do a "Get Info" on it, then switch to the memory page. Since you have plenty of memory, I'd give it at least 20 MB, maybe more - a lot more.
...I did that; and it didn't work. I upped iCab's memory, too (it really needed more, and I'm ashamed I didn't attend to this earlier), but I still have the same problem.
whoa. nooooo....
Yahoo Instant Messenger is capable of handling dozens of active conversations, and hundreds of users in the list, with it's default memory size of 5000K.
iCab uses temporary memory for the most part. So the *only* time you should increase its memory size is if you have a *specific* plug-in that requires it (is not temp-memory aware). FWIW, I often have a dozen pages open at a time in iCab, using the default allocation of only 3000K!
And I didn't mention this before: this is a new problem. I have sucessfully called up Yahoo's email site on iCab FROM yIM before. I just can't now.
You have something else amiss, that's preventing YIM from sending the apple event to iCab. Something has eaten most/all of your RAM! Can't make too many suggestions as you've not included any system details... Start with checking the Memory control panel. Make sure virtual memory is on, and set to be one megabyte more than real memory. Then do an About This Computer from the Finder to see what'all is running and how much memory is available...
